(2-1)
Hare, hare, it is going up twice and sliding downhill once.
Comment:
In this song the word c'olGorE 'hare' is pronounced with the lengthening of the final vowel as c'olGora:. This kind of lengthening is typical of vocatives. The verb pOmerE- 'to roll' is derived from the bound stem pOm(e)-. This stem is not used independently, but its meaning can be reconstructed as something like 'round', cf. pOmnE- 'round'. The verb here refers to a common entertainment, sliding down hills covered in icy snow. The attributive form of the numeral 'two' ataqun seems to be used adverbially with the meaning 'twice'. In this sentence, as well as in the other sentences in this song, the Imperfective Converbs of the quantitative verbs ataqlo:- 'two' and irke:- 'one' are used as adverbs. However, this use is not common.
